Hello, my name is Tara Klingenberg and I am a first year student in the 2-year Accounting Coop Program at Fanshawe College. While working full-time as a manager at Tim Horton’s, I graduated with a marketing diploma in 1998 from Mohawk College. Shortly after graduation, I was married and it was at that time that I decided to put my career on hold and chose to start a family. I was a stay at home mom until my youngest child started school; it was at that time that I went to work part time in a call centre. From the call centre position, I moved on to a full time reception position within the same company. I was able to develop excellent customer service skills whether it be over the telephone or face-to face. Over the years, I have had a couple of office administration positions giving me experience in accounting principles like: payables, receivables, payroll, and invoicing.
After being laid off work in December of 2015 and many months of trying to obtain a new job, I decided that I didn’t want a “job” and in fact I wanted to pursue the career which I had put on hold. I decided that I needed to go back to school to achieve that dream. I chose the Accounting Program because along with my customer service experience, I enjoy working with numbers and have a great attention to detail. It is my hope that after I complete this program I will continue on and achieve my Bachelor of Commerce degree in accounting and eventually obtain my CPA designation. |
